Whilst my partner and I were travelling from Australia to the Philippines to catch up with friends and family, we organised a dinner with some of my high school friends at Summer Palace. None of us had been before, so we went in with no real expectations. The ambience was classy, clean, and well put together, with a traditional Chinese dining feel and a rotating table in the centre, making it ideal for sharing dishes—especially for bigger groups. The staff were welcoming and attentive throughout the night, regularly topping up our water and checking in on us, which we appreciated. We started with the pork har gow and other dim sum, which were nicely cooked and flavourful. Paired with chilli sauce, it became one of the more enjoyable dishes of the night for my partner. We also ordered fried rice, sweet and sour pork with pineapple, chicken and vegetable soup, and the Peking duck pancakes. While everything was decent and enjoyable, nothing particularly stood out or felt memorable. O

They serve some of the best dimsum in town! Hands down. Each piece of dimsum is huge, its flavors balanced, and its textures are spot on. One could dine on just dimsum here and be satisfied, though their fried rice and main dishes were also great. The beef tenderloin in black pepper sauce in particular was amazingly tender. Definitely worth coming back to. Even worth making a reservation in advance just to dine here again. Even just for the dimsum.

Areas for Improvement: * The steamed rice rolls were average. * The mango shrimp roll was disappointing as it did not contain any mango. Overall, this is a highly recommended spot for great dim sum.

I find the menu prices expensive for a Chinese cuisine. The ambience for me is not so inviting - non-modern interior (or maybe this is what they are really going for i.e. traditional Chinese look). We just walked in (2pax) and checked the menu first then decided to give it a try. When we were already seated and about to order, we were only advised that main menu are only available for order by 12noon (so we had to wait for an hr 😰), and only Dimsum menu is available at this hour. The staff should have mentioned it earlier since we asked for the menu first before we decided to come in. We ordered 4 Dimsum dishes (shrimp,lobster rolls, scallops, steamed rice wrap)

Being the night before Mother’s day, they were full but accepted our reservation asking if we were ok at their “extension” which is one of the hotel’s function rooms. Ambience NIL given that it was just a plain hotel function room. Food was almost as good, but served on crappy, thick, cheap chinaware that would normally be used by cheap caterers really took away a lot from the eating pleasure. They could have used better china for the prices they charge! Service was also haphazard, obviously not their usual serve staff and not well supervised. Lesson - eat elsewhere if restaurant dining room is full.
