What an absolute delight! A hidden gem in a beautiful but very touristy town. Puerta de Merida is a reason alone to come here. The service was outstanding, the food the best we’ve had in years and the restaurant itself was gorgeously authentic with a lovely terrace to spend the afternoon or evening enjoying cold beers or great wine whilst taking shade from the Spanish sun.

I had an outstanding evening meal here, in such a lovely setting. It is now 2 dishes for €14 and each person dining has to order 2 dishes, that’s the formula. I had the leek salad in lemon and olive oil vinaigrette and a spanish version of caponata, which was very summery and refreshing. The second dish was pork loin with a cheese sauce and mushroom, also very nice.

I had two excellent dishes - the migas and pimiento with Gorgonzola. This is the first time I have migas. It was good but if I were to go again, I would try something more adventurous. My wife’s callos (tripe) were not very good. It may be the style of preparation but they were salty and strong tasting. The leek salad was tasty. Our server was pleasant and attentive, the wine good, and the rolls the best I have had in this region.
