Without a doubt, the best restaurant I’ve visited here. The food is authentic, delicious, and truly tastes like home. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and prepared with care. What impressed me the most was the service. It’s the first restaurant in Zanzibar where I felt genuinely comfortable and happy with how fast and attentive the service was. The owner is incredibly welcoming and makes you feel at home from the moment you arrive. I highly recommend Al Casbah Restaurant to anyone looking for authentic Algerian cuisine and excellent hospitality. I’ll definitely be back!

I was genuinely surprised to discover an Algerian restaurant in Zanzibar, but the drive from Nungwi was absolutely worth it. Al Casbah in Paje offers a true taste of home (“bled”) with authentic flavors and a warm atmosphere. The food was outstanding — the bourek was incredibly delicious, the lamb was juicy, perfectly cooked, and beautifully presented. The vibes were great, the staff were kind and attentive, and the owner, CHRIF, was especially welcoming and friendly, making the experience even more memorable. If you’re passing through Paje, Al Casbah is definitely a place you shouldn’t miss.

One of the best meals I have had in a long time! Stumbled upon it, as we stayed right next door. I trusted the owner (legend btw) as I am usually not a lamb fan.. softest meat ever and absolutely delicious! Not to mentioned he spoke French with the table next to us, Italian with my friends and German with me and English with us all Together. Super nice staff. Love the open kitchen. You know you get the highest quality! The restaurant welcomed us. A Must visit, when in Paje!

We loved our dinner at the Casbah and so glad we decided to go here instead of having another grilled seafood meal available in most places! The owner is very knowledgeable about food and passionate about what he does. All dishes are spiced perfectly and full of flavour. We had the selection of starters, lamb couscous, and some homemade chocolate cake - everything tasted fantastic. The selection of music makes this place even better! 🖤

The best food we had in Paje — by far. We tried many other places, but Al Casbah Restaurant was on a completely different level. The quality was dramatically better and noticeably higher than anywhere else in the area. We ended up eating here four times, which says everything. The owner is very present, takes time to talk to every guest, and goes far beyond small talk. He speaks several languages and creates a genuinely warm and personal atmosphere. The lamb was an absolute dream — perfectly cooked and incredibly flavorful. Drinks and food were excellent throughout. Food and drinks can sometimes take a little longer, but that’s simply the Zanzibar “pole pole” mentality, and for food of this quality it’s more than worth the wait. Highly recommended — easily several levels above other local restaurants. We would come back anytime!

I have never experienced such a wonderful welcome at a restaurant as I did at Al Casbah. The owner is a passionate man who speaks beautifully about his menu. The food was delicious and prepared using high-quality ingredients! To top it all off, "Clair de Lune" by Ravin and Carlos Campos was playing in the background—a track that I just can't get out of my head now 😊. Thank you for a feast for both the palate and the ears. Wonderful memories from Paje!!!

A warm, inviting space greeted us with vibrant decor and the fragrant hint of spice in the air, signaling a meal that would be hearty and soulful. The owner’s evident passion shone through in both the kitchen and the dining room, making the experience feel intimate and invested; the staff were attentive as he guided us through the menu with pride. Star dishes, ambiance, and value: The lamb was delicious, meaty and almost off the bone tender, showcasing the kitchen’s skill with textures and rich flavors. The dining room’s decor nods to Algerian culture and the overall vibe is cozy and welcoming. However, the loud music during our visit was a turb off and detracted from the otherwise intimate atmosphere. Portions and pricing felt fair for the quality and atmosphere, and the overall experience left me eager to return to explore more of the menu and the chef’s repertoire.

Casbah is easily the best Algerian restaurant I’ve encountered in the Afro Asian zone. What makes this place truly unique is how the authentic Algerian flavors are perfectly married with a local Zanzibari touch. The service was top notch, Fatma was incredibly welcoming from the moment we arrived. The owner, Sherif, is a wonderful soul so friendly, kind, and he truly spreads positive energy to every table. this is a must visit for the food and the vibes
