We wandered past Cafe Africano a few times before stepping inside to relax out of the sun. There's a good selection of food and drink options and I highly recommend the delightful samosas. Prices are very reasonable for the quality. The vibe is relaxed and friendly, with shelves of books to pickup and read, art to admire and purchase and friendly staff on hand.

A lovely little café in the heart of Stone Town, perfect for a short break. We ordered a caramel iced latte and a iced cappuccino — both were well made and very enjoyable. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed, with lots of books around that give the place a warm, inviting feel. The staff were friendly and welcoming, making the experience even better. It’s an ideal spot to escape the heat and take a 20–30 minute pause while exploring the city. Highly recommended if you’re looking for good coffee and a calm, comfortable atmosphere in Stone Town.

This café is a hidden gem in terms of decor—filled with lush plants and books, it has a wonderful atmosphere. The coffee was quite good and the service was fine. ​However, the kitchen was a major disappointment. We waited over an hour for two breakfast toasts, and sadly, both of us ended up with severe stomach issues that lasted for two days.

Took a break at Cafe Africano by happenstance while on a Stone Town Tour and was pleasantly surprised by this oasis of relaxation with all one can ask for: ambiance, quality food and drinks, excellent service, wifi, and etc. I end up going back two more times during my 8 days stay in Zanzibar in December 2025 and I was not disappointed. So yeah if you are near by check it out.

Super relaxing atmosphere — no pressure to leave, quite the opposite! You can easily spend hours there just chilling. The food menu isn’t huge, but the portions are generous and everything is really tasty. Drinks are great too. Prices are a bit higher compared to other local spots — more on the European side — but still affordable for Europeans! Overall, a great place! The fans everywhere keep the temperature comfortable, and the decor is lovely.

I visited for the stylish ambiance and a good reading nook, which are real pluses. The books are a nice touch, but the juice fell short of the hype flat and unbalanced and the service was slow during peak times. The masala chips with salad that I ordered never came with the salad. There were also noticeable hints of blatant inequity in how local guests were treated, which soured the overall experience. Food didn’t quite match the cafe’s reputation either.
