We visited recently for a date night, having heard a lot about the restaurant locally. The setting is lovely and it’s clearly positioned as a special-occasion venue, so we arrived with high expectations. Unfortunately, the overall experience did not reflect the reputation or pricing. There were no gluten-free indicators on the printed menu. When we asked about options, we were told someone would come over to explain what was gluten-free, but instead we were later handed an iPad to check allergen information ourselves. We used to love the Cliff, but recent visits it’s gone downhill. Monday lunchtime, with 20° weather it was dead. After today experience, I can understand why! Have been getting the pâté here for years, but the dish was half as full as normal, and looked like my 5 year old son had filled it up. No pride from the chefs, look at the picture. My “buttermilk crispy chicken burger” was not fresh! Could have gotten better from Tesco and the ginger slaw was from Poundland too! Terrible. Had to ask them to clean outside of old plates from previous patrons and the seagulls were attacking. Waiter cleaned

Great venue. Big garden for outside dining and broad menu. Monk fish and trio of Pork were delicious! The mini desert and cocktail option is a great addition to the menu - wish more places did this!

Troy was looking after we 3 Ladies at lunch on June 2nd whilst we celebrated our friend's birthday. The food was lovely ( we had starters / mains) and the service was really good. Troy and a younger young man possibly learning his trade, looked after us really well and once he realised we were up for a bit of banter and a giggle he became more familiar but not inappropriately so. Cliff never disappoints and we came out with complimentary cake and a feel good factor and only the birthday girl had alcohol. Best wishes Jill, Annie & Lin
