Found the coffee and hot chocolates to be pretty nice here, ar at least Nero standard. Service has always been generally very good at this one. I’m giving it 4* because one time I asked for a hot chocolate to have in and a got a takeaway cup which annoyed me.

Yesterday had a large hot chocolate with oat milk and my daughter a chai latte. Both great. Nero’s hot chocolate in my opinion is far superior to Costa or Starbucks. Not too sweet and not artificial cocoa. Staff friendly and a lovely building. Other reviews say it could do with refurbishing and yes maybe it could but it’s got some charm and cozy and seats comfortable. And we chatted to a lovely 84 yr old gentleman who is clearly a Nero fan and regular there.

Had a lovely coffee date today - the upstairs ambience and aesthetic was so Parisian, I adored it. The wait times are obscene however I can understand because it's so much more popular than your average Costa/Starbucks. The prices are slightly cheaper and the quality of the cakes is miles better! The blueberry muffin - gorgeous. Almond croissant - 👏However, I did feel a bit cheated when I received my tiny "medium" iced flat white - I guess I will be sizing up to a large next time I go, because Cafe Nero will be a staple for in town coffee dates.

When in Chelmsford I like to use this branch. Good choice of seating upstairs and down, excellent coffee, nice staff - but the big disappointment today was the apricot danish. What has happened ? Has the company changed it's supplier ? What used to look like an appetising piece of apricot is now a most unappealing shade of brown , lacking in flavour with the surrounding pastry equally unpleasant
