The Last Drop in Grassmarket is full of history, and that alone makes it feel extra special. It does get busy very quickly, so I’d recommend going early to get a table and really enjoy the atmosphere. The space is small and a bit cramped, but the food more than makes up for it with great flavor. The menu is compact but packed with traditional Scottish dishes. The haggis is definitely worth trying and the burgers were brilliant. The staff were very friendly and added so much to the overall experience. We missed out on dessert this time, so we’re hoping to go back for another round soon!

No table service, orders for food and drink must be placed by patrons at the bar. Food is delivered to the table but drinks are not. Arrive early because this place fills up quickly. Really good and well prepared food, the staff were very pleasant and the atmosphere was lovely if not a bit macabre once we understood the double meaning. A great experience.

The service here is definitely weird. They aren’t necessarily rude, but a bit out of it might be the best way to put it. Some people would find it off putting. I almost did but once service was in swing they seemed to bring it back to something normal. I also made sure to order everything at once so not to play loosey goosey with them. The pub’s backstory, where people once had their final drink before facing execution, adds a powerful sense of atmosphere and authenticity that you do not find in modern venues. I stopped in for a drink purely to soak in the history and the mood, and it absolutely delivered. You can feel the weight of the past in the walls, yet the space remains welcoming and comfortable.
