We went to the Old Barge for a colleagues retirement party. The food was very good though there were a couple of issues. We were a little disappointed that our doggy was not allowed to sit in the restaurant room under the table. She was even more disappointed than us and made us know. There selection of ales wasn't great. On our visit there was not a single session pale on tap and the canned beers were out of date. Having to go for a lager there was only Heineken on tap which I wouldn't usually choose.

The Christmas dinner was very nice and big. However I didn't get a picture as my phone was low. I did get one of my crème brulee which was also nice but on the small side. However I was very annoyed at service charge as I only brought £20 with me thinking that would be enough but Mum came and saved me.

Super setting, very reasonable prices, great food and super people. April 2025 My photography group came here for lunch after exploring Hertford. We had a very warm welcome from the landlady who I remembered from a visit I made two years ago. We were given a table overlooking the canal - a beautiful setting with barges slowly making their way past. We were quickly served our drinks by Heather, who was helpful and charming. Absolutely brilliant from start to finish. We booked for a family Sunday lunch after a long walk, and it was spot on: warm welcome, cracking food, and a proper cosy atmosphere. Service was attentive without fuss. We’ll be back for sure, and happily recommend it to anyone.
