My third time here, unfortunately this time it didnt meet the standards of previous visits. The batter on the fish was perfectly crispy and absolutely delicious as always due to the seasoning they use in the mix. However the haddock itself lacked any depth of real flavour, the flakes were a nice size and pure white, but its ultimately about the taste. The chips also lacked the usual great taste. They were crispy but fluffy inside, but nothing special. The peas were absolutley sweet and delicious and just how I like them, not too thick. I love fish & chips! I travel all around the UK to find great fish & chips spots. I live in Dubai, and have a great friend from Hull, who said Pollards is the best in the UK. So I flew 7 hours, and took a nearly 3 hour train journey to check it out. I was excited. All the signs on the outside claimed this is the best in the UK. I'd like to meet the people that made this claim. Seriously. I'd like to have an actual discussion with those that voted this as the best. We arrived at 7:30 PM. It closes at 9:00 PM. Some of the chips we had were burnt. Yes, they were black on one side and you could taste the burntness. Was as if they had been sitting against something hot for a while or reheated. Was a large piece of fish but it was quite watery and not overly meaty. Batter was crispy. Was a bit disappointed as it had been given great reviews but I felt it was very standard and nothing special, especially with the poor chip quality.

Pollards today for my dinner,, the food was very good large fish special with mushy peas. Great taste and good prices. And the 2 young ladies very friendly and chatty. My favorite subject grandkids so well done ..
