The hype for the best Fish & Chips - it's real. I understand it better, now that I have commenced on a rampage of finding the best chippy around. For now, I'd vote for Colmans! With my very limited knowledge on this subject, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience in Colmans soooooo much that I had to bring my whole church family to South Shields just to indulge and feast. First time in Coleman’s. Not disappointed. For a sit down fish and chips it was actually not much more than more than our takeaway in Newcastle! Staff are attentive, £20 for a fish, chips, peas and a tea. Wife had a pensioners special @ £10.95. Very busy but not packed in. Plenty of space between tables.

We finally made it to this iconic South Shields Fish & Chips establishment and it pretty much hit the mark. This main outpost was nicely decorated inside with modern marine decor and lots of old time photos and memorabilia on the walls, it was also very clean and well organized. Let me start with their bread and butter dish, their cod fish fry, crispy and nicely battered fresh and flaky cod fish filet, among the best that I have had, my only complaint would be that it was a little bit oily and the piece could have been let to dry out a little more. This is another late review. Absolutely 100% recommend Coleman’s .. The food was lovely .. perfectly cooked Fish n chips ..excellent portion size fills the plate .. Forget the rest and give them a try. Restaurant a little dated but adds to its charm . 49 mile round trip but totally worth the drive .
