I haven't been to Nero for ages simply because I'm prefer another local place to grab a coffee but on returning from Heathrow then other day I had a great coffee and superb Pain au Chocolate at a branch there. I would equate the pastry to as good as some found in France. So I tried Southend again. Coffee fine, staff fine but the pastry was abysmal. Photo attached. It tasted similar to something that would be baked in house by a supermarket. The pastry inside was just gloop. No separation of the layers, tiny in size and the chocolate tasted like a cream rather than solid. Won't be going back pu

Good place to have a coffee, friendly members of staff but the only problem is that they have a fruit fly infestation. Fruit flies are all over the coffee shop. And they land on your coffee. So they need to do a proper clean and get rid of them. I can't imagine what is happening behind the counter with all the milk and food. Also fridge for yogurt and juices really need a proper clean. Full of dust and food crumbs maybe that's why they have fruit flies all over. Spider Web all over around. Good prices and you can pay with cash.

All the staff are very friendly and attentive. The quality of Nero coffee is indisputable, and on top of that, the people who make the coffee are very good at their job. I come here every morning with pleasure.
