We had a truly unforgettable evening at Karoo. It was our first time trying South African cuisine, and every dish impressed us. We also tried ostrich meat for the first time, and we absolutely loved it such a unique and enjoyable experience. The quality and presentation of the food were excellent. What stood out the most was the owner’s attention and the friendliness of the staff. They made us feel very special, and that level of service is hard to find. We will definitely be coming back again. Highly recommended!

What a fantastic restaurant. Best experience in a long time, and I eat out regularly in London. The very kind, attentive owners looked after us from the minute we walked in the door. They were very friendly and helpful. After a joke saying my kids would prefer crème soda South African style this was delivered, despite not being on the menu. With a warning not to knock it over, which my daughter then did, and it was cleaned up with no fuss and the additional glass not even charged for. The food was exceptional. Fantastic tasty food. Our party had Ostrich steaks, oxtail and mielie pap and ribs with starters of biltong of course, finished up with deconstructed melk tart and amarula cheesecake. All authentic South African food. The only thing was the service was a little slow but that did not detract from our chat with the lovely restaurant hosts - Zac and Nathan and our party of guests. This place is a hidden gem. Not as we’ll know as other places in York but better for us in the know. I’m not usually impressed by places from start to finish but here we go. The three people running the place felt like they were the owners and I think that they are. They explained the menu option with such complete knowledge that they had care and passion for what they were doing. I had the king prawns in chilli sauce and the tempura gherkins then the Ostrich fillet. The did not need sauce as it was cooked to perfection and the flavours were divine. If I’m going in to a different national res
