They may have invented the Buffalo chicken wing, but I think that’s where the innovation stopped. I’d heard about this place for years and always thought it was supposed to be the gold standard for Buffalo wings. Unfortunately, these wings were a huge disappointment and honestly put us off chicken wings altogether. They weren’t crispy at all. The skin was soggy and the texture was really off putting. The onion rings were great and the service was fine, but when you’re known for your wings and the wings are the worst part of the meal, that’s a problem.

This is the third Anchor Bar location I’ve been to and it never disappoints. My husband and I make it a point to stop by every time we’re passing through upstate New York. I’ve only had the wings but they also have a pretty extensive menu. The Buffalo dry rub is their “secret” recipe, it’s unique and tastes fantastic.

We went on a Wednesday night to a mostly empty restaurant. The service was fine, but both the wings and beef on deck were terrible. For a place that "invented" chicken wings, these were barely cooked, pale and soggy. The sauce was okay but couldn't save the how badly the wings were cooked. The weck was alright but the beef was the same precooked beef you can get at basically any quick service restaurant or cafeteria.

The best place for wings in the area! I've been a regular for over a year now and prefer this location over the original one. The extra drive is well worth the wait for excellent chicken and better sauce choices. Jackie always takes care of us and remembers our order. Even if she isn't our server for the night at times, she still comes to check on us to make sure everything is right. The hot pepper bacon jam is to die for! It has an amazing sweetness to it with a small amount of heat. The bacon is the perfect final touch to create a sauce that is both salty and sweet.
