The restaurant is cool with nice aesthetic and bar. The speakeasy downstairs had a long line. We sat at the bar when we arrived and enjoyed the cocktails. Great flavors, beautifully put together. Staff at the bar were friendly and helpful too. When we got to our table we ordered food and noticed a shift from the level of service at the bar compared to the table. The server had no personality, we were celebrating a birthday and he didn't acknowledge it at all. We had a wonderful dinner experience here with a party of six. The space is beautifully designed, with thoughtfully separated areas that make it feel more private and comfortable for groups. We started with guacamole, which had a beautiful presentation and was perfect for sharing, along with the octopus and tuna tartare—everything was fresh and delicious. For the mains, we had the paella, branzino, carne asada tacos, and tried the sweet plantain and chorizo tacos for the first time, which were a great surprise. Matilda on Wells Street is a standout for those wanting a lunch with refined flavor and a welcoming, unpretentious atmosphere. Jonny, Aide, and Alicia were all friendly and very helpful. Matilda has an impressive drinks menu, especially the wide variety of mezcal spirits available. We ordered from the three course lunch menu, and were not disappointed! Everything was fresh, inventive and delicious. On our next visit, we plan to check out the downstairs speakeasy.

Had a pleasant dinner here! Loved the plantain with chorizo taco and the steak taco; my friend and I shared them together and it was a great combo! Plantain is a little sweet but in a good way, and the steak taco had some crunch that was good! Would come back here to try more dishes!! Staff were great.
