Full Kee Restaurant

While in town for my daughter’s tournament, we decided to try this location since it was conveniently attached to our hotel and we’re fans of the Full Kee back home. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to the name. The interior felt quite dated and run-down, and the food followed suit. We ordered the lo mein, mixed vegetables, and Singapore noodles, but all three dishes were dry, bland, and lacked any real flavor. It was a pretty disappointing experience.

Being explicitly asked for extra tips when paying the bill was absolutely ridiculous—never again. On top of that, the food was the most disappointing I’ve ever had in my life.

The restaurant gives hole-in-the-wall vibes with a unique atmosphere, has great orange chicken and vegetables, and has excellent tea for free with your meal, but falls short in most other aspects. I got the xiao long bao, labelled differently on the menu. They hardly had any soup in them and I'm unsure if that was a service miscommunication or if they were just bad soup dumplings, but they were the worst and most expensive soup dumplings I've had (granted, I have only had them twice in Chinatown Philly and once in Baltimore). We wanted diem sum on our visit to Richmond, and our son found Full Kee, an authentic Chinese diem sum restaurant. I ordered our dishes in Cantonese, and they had all our favorite dishes, including siu mei, cheng fun, ha gow, shrimp balls, roast pork, pork ribs, and baked cha siu buns. The food was very tasty, and there were good vegetarian options, including turnip cakes, gai lan Chinese broccoli, bok choy and garlic, seaweed salad, coconut jello and sesame seed balls.
