Solid neighborhood bar. Hard to find a place in Evanston that’s open late. Food has taken a step up from a few years ago. $1 wings on Thursdays is great, fries are always very good. Drafts are a little pricey at $8 for most beers, and they charge 75 cents for carrots, celery, blue cheese each. Service can also be slow during peak hours, although always pleasant.

Go every week for the trivia night. Good questions, good people to hang out with, great host. She gets the rules out, makes the questions clear, and puts up with the usual secondary issues and loudness with infinite grace. It’s always a great time, the booze is good stuff, and the food is tasty too - but, again, the trivia makes it my weekly Bar I Go To.

Go for a beer, stay for the cheese curds. They are very different than the usual ones we see at restaurants. Ridgeville's curds are soft, light, and airy. The breading is not the standard hard crust, but something that is reminiscent of tempura. They're visually appealing as well. They aren't uniform crisp cylinders, they're free-form. This might be our new fave for a drink and an app in downtown Evanston. P.S. They arrive with ranch for the dipper, but ask for barbecue sauce. They are delicious with barbecue sauce!

Ridgeville Tavern absolutely nailed it. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere struck that perfect balance between lively and laid-back—somewhere you can just as easily catch up with friends as you can settle in for a great meal and a couple drinks. The space feels thoughtfully put together without trying too hard, which I always appreciate. The standout for me, though, was the risotto fritters.
