We stopped at H&H Soul Food Restaurant while passing through Macon on a road trip, and it was a great find. We were looking for local spots to grab a bite, and this place stood out, it’s been around since 1959 and has that genuine, homemade feel you hope to find in a local institution. Even though we arrived close to closing time, the service was welcoming, efficient, and quick. I’m not sure how this restaurant gets such great reviews. Perhaps it because of limited options which make something passable into a gourmet experience. My wife and I were excited to try this place after reading the history of the restaurant along with the review. Our experience was highly disappointing. First, the service was cordial but nothing exceptional. We were greeted and directed to a table but the waitress was uninterested in us and never tried to warm us up nor cared to ask if we liked our food or anything during nor after the meal. An excellent soul food restaurant with a historic reputation. It's a popular stop for many southern rock groups like the Allman Brothers. You choose your meats from 1-3 depending on your appetite. You choose your side options the same. I chose the two meat option with fried chicken and catfish. Either one was big enough for a meal on its own. The fried chicken may have been the best fried chicken I've ever had. The prices were very reasonable and our service was excellent.

This place was recommended by a handful of locals. This place does not dissapoint. Friendly service, teamwork present throughout the entire service. What is a must, those biscuits and homemade compote. The fluffiness of the biscuit and hints of butter. The compote was berry with a tinge of citrus. This restaurant is filled with Nostalgia. The love from the staff and community keeps the spirits of the owners alive and well through the food they prepare daily.
