My husband and I rarely leave the island to go out to eat. But today he wanted some really good fried chicken and a variety of vegetables. We had been to Hartz once before and enjoyed it so we went to the location in Texas City. The restaurant was busy but not crowded as it was about 1:00 pm on a Wednesday. The store was very clean. Restrooms were very clean too. All of the buffet selections were kept full and fresh. There was a great selection of food choices. We were greeted as we walked in by friendly staff. We will definitely be back.

Great variety of food, and this is definitely my go to spot for fried chicken. Everything is usually on point, but I’m giving 4 stars because the catfish was a little too fried and didn’t compare as well to other spots.

Cross contamination!!!! They need a class on proper food handling. Piling buffet trays to the heat lamp and mixing old and new buffet food is gross. If this is how the front is handled in front of people I’m assuming the same or worse happens in the back. Mixing fresh mashed potatoes, gumbo, gravy’s with older product is gross. Things on the line expire and the new food being put out will have a different use by time. It should NEVER be mixed. It’s just basic food handling. And gross to watch each time I go. Someone is bound to get very sick eating this.

I'm a big fan of this place. It's a fried chicken buffet. How could you go wrong. They have lots of options on the buffet. Fried gizzards, chicken livers, Buffalo wings, fried fish, baked chicken, and chicken tenders. And those are a lot of my favorites. They also have gumbo. Plus all the sides like collared greens, beans, rice, cabbage, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes with white and brown gravy, and really, really good yeast rolls.
