Came at a more quiet time but that allowed us to have a chat with the lovely staff about the menu and the region which is always lovely. They speak English well and are forgiving with your attempt to pronounce the German words which makes for a lovely experience. The portions were generous and we are leaving feeling very satisfied. The building is wonderful and aesthetically pleasing with high arched vault ceilings.

We had a really great time at Rathauskeller. It’s a proper German restaurant, exactly what you hope for when eating in Bavaria. The food was very, very tasty. The pork knuckle was excellent, and the schnitzel was also really good. Even the fries stood out, which is not always the case. Everything we ordered was spot on, from start to finish. We also enjoyed the wine, which was better than expected for this kind of traditional place. The restaurant is set in a big hall with lots of people, so it does get quite noisy, but that’s part of the experience. It really feels like a classic German bee

The place to visit for a hearty meal when you visit Augsburg! Ratskeller is a restaurant that would capture your heart instantly with its special location (at the basement of the townhall - regrettably closed temp. at the time of my visit), ambient atmosphere and decoration, and charming service. Mostly attended by locals, it sets the atmosphere for a quiet and intimate date if you are not into boisterous, lively place.
