It was awesome! Our local friends brought us here for dinner and we stuffed ourselves! All the food was fantastic. I could hardly believe how much we ate. The atmosphere inside was very fun. I liked that the plates and bowls weren’t perfect. There were chips around the edges of some of them. It made it feel like we were in nonna’s dining room instead of an overly manicured restaurant setting. There were cool touches like the plates on the table had the original nonna’s recipes in her handwriting baked into the actual plate itself. You can see an example in my appetizer photo. This is a unique and special place. The best taverna I’ve been to in Italy by far, and dishes that were so packed with flavor and soul that I continue to think about them many days since. This the kind of cooking that manages to be totally unique while also seeming completely familiar, like the warm embrace of someone you love but haven’t seen in a long time. Taverna 58 is a spiritual experience and I can’t wait to go back.

If we could, we would extend our stay in Pescara just to eat at this restaurant again. Excellent local food, hearty and comforting. We strongly recommend the arrosticini and the slow cooked mutton casserole and wild boar stew. The setting is in a grotto with exposed roman arches and the restaurant boasts numerous mentions in the Michelin guide. Book in advance, as there is a limited number of tables and it’s only open for two hours per evening.
