We loved the authentic atmosphere and relaxed vibe here. Most importantly, the food was delicious and clearly freshly made. The Swahili platter is a great choice if you want to try a bit of everything, though big meat eaters might want to add extra beef or chicken curry. We enjoyed it so much that we came back again before leaving Mombasa and had the Swahili breakfast, which included kebab, potato dough, and samosas, all perfectly done. The location is also great, just a few steps from Fort Jesus, so it’s easy to combine a visit to both. With limited options for truly authentic local food in Mombasa city center, save yourself the hassle and eat here instead of ordering overpriced Uber food or going to western-style, pretentious places.

Super cute traditional decor, with kanga table cloths and traditional art on the walls. They greeted us with traditional coffee and little candies. We ordered pilau, fried chicken, rice, spinach & the food was served family style. They overfried the chicken but the pilau was spiced perfectly. There was no running water in the sink but they have buckets of water to wash hands.

The place is so well curated. Even just from the outside looking in, it is an inviting and cozy atmosphere. We arrived and the hospitality of our waiter was amazing and he was very patient and communicated well, always ensuring that he understood our order. We had the Swahili Platter which was very tasty and settling for the stomach. The meal felt very light but also very filling. We even got free Swahili coffee and dates before our meal! The prices here are also just hard to beat! Very fair prices for how good everything is here. I will be recommending this place to anyone I know coming to Old Town.
