Loved this place! Located a street or so north of Calle de Atocha, it's a typical old style Spanish bistro inside: tiled floor and walls, a bar counter made of dark wood, black and white framed photos on the walls, and waiters wearing apron and bow tie. The lunchtime crowd was a mix of local workers and a few tourists (us!). We had a vegetable sandwich and the goat's cheese salad, and both were excellent despite their simple ingredients.

Only had cafe con leche and churros which was all delicious. Felt very "local" as it was off the beaten path. Passed a Starbucks to get a more Madrid experience. Open early. Great people watching. Not much English spoken by the staff but we made it work with our basics. Will definitely go back.

Generally found the area within blocks of Sol to be very touristy and a bit crummy. Very happy to have found Café Bar Hylogui near our Hostal. Normal Spanish breakfast - cafe con leche, tostada, zumo - at normal Spanish prices. Excellent service. Clientele included a fireman and a couple business people on the way to work.

Cute place in the centre. Food is a bit weak, so would not go there to have a meal. Instead, swing by to enjoy its atmosphere and have a coffee or a beer. Service is friendly and very cordial. The arroz con leche I had was cooked to perfection, but had no sweetness to it. A bit odd, but works side by side with an espresso (without sugar of course). Coffee is good 😁
