I’m from Brazil, and after seeing your Instagram posts I thought, I have to visit this place! I’ve just arrived in Leicester and Grimsby Fisheries was one of my first stops. I ordered the mini fish & chips (meal deal 1) and absolutely loved it! The fish was tender and juicy, with a perfectly crispy batter, and the chips were delicious. The mushy pea gravy was also really good. The portion size is very generous, and I’d especially like to highlight the excellent service I received.

The worst fish and chips I’ve ever had. The batter was greasy and soft, as if it had been re-fried, and the pie was completely dried out. Really disappointing — the standards are far below what we’re used to. What happened?

We’d heard that the new owners served halal so thought to go here and give it a try. As soon as I walked in, I asked one of the ladies who worked there if all the food was halal - she replied saying yes. I have always believed that if you are told something is halal you should trust it. We queued to order and I wanted a pie. I realised the pies were stored in a pukka pie warmer but assumed maybe it’s an old warmer and that it was all still halal as this is what I’d been told. My gut didn’t feel right, so just before ordering I asked if the pies were halal and was told they weren’t. It’s confus
