The Coffee Mill is definitely a hidden gem, very close to central Edinburgh. The small coffee and breakfast place can barely be seen when you walk by. Yet they were one of the few places already open early to catch a good breakfast. And how surprisingly good it was indeed. The staff there are very friendly and very nice. Coffee tastes great. Best Scottish breakfast I’ve ever had. Very delicious, very adequate portion, and great quality food. The price was very reasonable too. I ordered a Mocha Late which I realllly enjoyed. After making handbags at the Islander Workshop, we explored a little, and wanted to pop in for a quick sip and a tasty treat. We ended up doing that at The Coffee Mill. We got ourselves a couple hot sips (tea for the wifey and cocoa for myself). They did a cute (and manly) mustache in my cocoa. The cocoa was rich and flavorful. My wife enjoyed her tea as well. For our treats, we enjoyed a frosted (with the Scottish flag) cookie and a slice of triple layer cake. Everything was great. The shop was clean, and the service was friendly and quick.

The food was great and the latte was even better. I had the Scottish breakfast, the mix of beans and the acidity from the grilled tomato was perfect. The haggis was great, too. The owner was there, I’m assuming because he’s in all the old pictures on the wall. And he was funny and impressionable.
