Stayed at Galtres Lodge and had my meals at the Forest.. the food was top rate, very good. Although I couldn't eat it all due to my diet I enjoyed it thoroughly. This is not your standard menu fare. Everything seems well thought out and is quality food. Staff is very polite and I love the atmosphere and old York feel. If you're coming to York you must add the Forest as a must visit/experience.

Booked ahead for Friday night, on entering we were welcomed by a young lass who showed us to our table showed the menus, We ordered our bottle of wine 🍷 and ordered our evening meal the wine 🍷 arrived within a few minutes and some 20 minutes later our main courses, I had the Rump Steak 🥩🥩 with a pepper sauce and all the trimmings my wife had the salmon both dishes were well presented hot and delicious 😋. Staff were very friendly, welcoming, polite and attentive.

Fantastic independent place in the centre of York. Best cocktails we've found over the weekend with some fantastic food offerings. Really nice chilled relaxed atmosphere and very friendly staff who provided great service. Perfect for a lunchtime start or and evening drink (or four)

In the heart of York. I had fish n chips, with mushy peas. Other half had a chunk of salmon. Both enjoyed immensely. Excellent staff. Tad loud but conversation still easy. Pudding stuffed us. We had crumble and creme brulee, which could have been a bit crisper on the top, YMMV depending on preference. We'd go back happily.
