Nice coffee shop in downtown San Mateo! This is their second location in San Mateo, and it’s noticeably larger than the other one. There’s plenty of seating, making it a great spot to hang out with friends or meet up in a group. The interior is clean and bright, with lots of glass windows that bring in natural light and give the space an open, welcoming vibe. I have been to many Blue Bottle locations over the years, and my view is that the cafés no longer consistently justify their prices. The espresso is often only decent, usually over-extracted, and the cappuccinos and lattes frequently feel like drinks made to a broad commercial standard rather than with real technical care. For a company that still trades on a reputation for specialty coffee, that is a serious decline. What stands out most is the gap between branding and execution. Love this location. Quiet atmosphere, usually not busy, and quick service. Their latte lines ate very good. My personal favorite would be match latte with oat milk. My husband’s long time love is their latte. However, their coffee is quite pricey.

Horrible staff. I usually love blue bottle but the baristas are very rude here. We were waiting 20 minutes for a coffee and we were going to miss our train. We asked the barista if she could prioritize ours instead of virtual orders for people who aren’t even there. She said no. We left without any coffee to catch our train although we had paid. If you are in a rush don’t come here. The baristas are awful.
