Cafe Topes in Carlsbad serves some seriously delicious food, but the overall environment and service could use some tuning. Heads up: you wait in a line to order at the counter, get a number, then seat yourself and wait for food and drinks. If you’re expecting table service, this isn’t that type of spot. The line was long and moved slowly, though clearly they’re not short on customers. There’s plenty of seating both inside and outside, which is nice. I ordered the Breakfast Burrito with chorizo and swapped the chips for well-done hashbrowns for an extra charge—great choice, and they nailed it

Great atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating and easy ordering up front. Food was hit or miss. The breakfast burrito was really good, but the Mexican coffee wasn’t for me (spicy and unusual). The chilaquiles were underwhelming, the salsa and beans tasted more canned than fresh. Overall, a decent spot, just stick with the burritos.

There will always be a line, but don’t let that deter you. The line is fast and the service is on point. This place makes amazing food. Everything is great. Don’t play games get the cinnamon roll dirty. Very, very dog friendly. This place is awesome.

The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. I ordered bacon, and it was perfect—crispy and not burnt. The blueberry lemon ricotta pancakes were tasty and we will definitely be back!
