The food here was fantastic. I gave them four stars because the service was a little slow and they forgot to bring what we order a couple of times. I am from Spain and it was nice to see that the food was authentic. We had paella, croquetas, ham with bread and tomatoes and boquerones en vinagre. I have to say that as a Spaniard I am used to bigger tapas. They were a little too small. The restrooms need some work. Other than that the atmosphere was nice, the decoration is very inviting and Spanish too.

Right off Valencia and 16th, Picaro feels like a little escape to Spain in the heart of the Mission. The menu is extensive and unapologetically protein-forward. Two to three tapas for two people is more than enough if you go classic: tortilla de patata (eggs and potatoes done right) and gambas al ajillo - a generous portion of shrimp swimming in garlicky olive oil that demands extra bread. Everything comes with a bread basket and salsa brava, and that smoky heat absolutely wakes up your appetite. Inside, it’s rustic and intimate, layered with Picasso posters, flamenco accents, and vintage-st
