Okay, this place is special. It’s really a record bar — walls stacked with vinyl, dim and warm, coffee brought over in a little glass carafe with a ceramic cup. Could’ve sat there for hours. But the reason I’m writing this is the coffee. They had One Half on, and instead of playing it safe I went for the Malaysia “My Liberica”. This isn’t Arabica — it’s actual Liberica, a completely different species. Grown down in Johor at near sea level by Jason Liew, whose beans have now made it to the World Barista Championship in Milan. Processed with that experimental JH (Jekyll & Hyde) fermentation — controlled inoculation with native microbes to manage Liberica’s usual bold character. The barista clearly knew the bean inside out. Only 13g of coffee, coarse grind, steady temperature — all of it dialed in to keep the typical smoky funk in check. She was genuinely curious when I asked about the process and took time to explain what was happening. The kind of barista who actually cares. I braced

Such a beautiful place!! Reminds me so much of the kissaten in Tokyo (no indoor smoking though). The staff were all so friendly and welcoming. It’s quiet and perfect for chatting and studying. Corner Corner is a true gem along Duxton that you need to experience. Step inside and suddenly, you are transported into a modern-retro Japanese kissaten, where vinyl records line the walls, dark wood wraps the space, and warm golden lighting makes everything feel slower. By day, it’s a quiet haven for hand-brewed coffee and Japanese tea. By night, it transforms into a cocktail bar. But honestly, the daytime vibe already blew me away. Mont Blanc ($11) This is easily one of the most memorable coffee drinks that I have had in a while! A smooth cold brew base topped with thick, velvety cream and freshly grated orange zest. The first sip hits you with that clean, bold coffee note, immediately softened by the cream. It’s refreshing yet indulgent at the same time without being surfeiting. Melbourne-inspired, but with its own personality. Hot Hojicha Karigane ($8) Made from roasted tea stems from Kyoto, this one leans toasty and mellow, with nutty notes and a gentle sweetness. A wonderful sanctuary in the heart of Duxton. Peaceful and serene. Japandi meets Jazz. In my layman’s opinion the teas are slightly better than the coffee. Their price reflects the value of the setting as much as they do the quality of the beverages. An equation I am happy with. Not a place for lunch, but they do serve a careful selection of a few desserts well done.

Corner Corner is easily one of my favourite cafe visits this year. The moment you walk in, the space feels like a modern take on a Japanese kissaten, with high ceilings, warm wooden shelves, and vinyls lining the walls. The cafe is run by two baristas, and the service was outstanding: friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about their coffee. I tried the Coffee of the Day ($6), served chilled on their recommendation. They were using a medium-dark roast, and the cup was bold, well-balanced, and refreshing for a hot afternoon. I also had the Choc Gateau ($8) and it was rich, not too sweet, and dense in the best way, melting smoothly with each bite. Paired with the light whipped cream, it was the perfect match for black coffee. Corner Corner is a cafe that keeps pulling me back. With their vintage interiors and the lovely records, the atmosphere is immaculate. Tried their Mont Blanc recently and it might be one of the best coffee based drink I’ve had in a while! Had their Nama cream roll cake and it’s just as delicious as the first try.
