VIPS at Palacio de Hielo is like a Spanish version of Chili’s, but with a few more healthy options—think poke bowls alongside burgers and fries. It’s casual, kid-friendly, and convenient if you’re already at the mall. At weekday lunch, it gets so loud you can only hear the person next to or in front of you. The Lemon Pie was a letdown—just ice cream, lemon cream, and a few crumbs, no actual crust. You’ll find VIPS all over Madrid, but it’s more about convenience than quality.

My husband and I used to come here all the time, but lately things seemed to have changed. The food feels rushed: we ordered eggs Benedict and had the tiniest little piece of bacon, not even a full piece. Our eggs were cold (and we waited a while for them). Quantities seem to be getting smaller and smaller. I think we could have overlooked all of that, but one of the waitresses was extremely cold to us: my husband asked a question about something on the menu and she literally rolled her eyes at him. Everyone is entitled to a bad day, but we left with a bad taste in our mouth.
