Awesome! Staff were so friendly and shared a ghost story or two about this pub! We didn’t have a booking but they were so accommodating. Food was great - the chicken was juicy and tasty. And the haggis bites were so yum. So much history here, I would definitely recommend and come back.

Excellent ambiance, service and food. We had a late lunch at the inn, after walking to it from Craigmillar Castle. The chicken and leak pot pie was especially good and Archie, our server was very attentive. This is the oldest pub/inn in Scotland; we found out about it from an old NYT article and understand why it’s withstood the test of time.

Was recommended to us by a friend who lives locally. After eating there, I am puzzled as to why. Waiting staff were polite and friendly, but the food was very disappointing. Garlic doughballs were so tough as to be inedible. The mushy peas that came with my monkfish scampi tasted sour, and were congealed on top. The monkfish was tasteless. I would not eat in this place again. Food was totally sub-standard. Avoid!

We were a group of around 20 for an office party and had booked the skittles area. We had an absolutely amazing time here and enjoyed playing skittles and having a private space for some more games and chat. It’s a very cozy pub and would be equally good for a quiet dinner with friends. Food was outstanding and I was really impressed that the staff were able to get all to food out together. Service though could be better as there was no effort made to take our drinks order and we had to repeatedly go to the bar to get drinks despite putting a tab.
