It was ok. Just wish portillos was like it used to be back in the 80s and 90s. I was born and raised in IL, and remember the italian beef as being bigger and having more meat. I have always loved coming to this location but I came in today for a special request to see if I could get a chocolate cake without the outside frosting. It was for Mothers Day and my mom has a medical condition that we have to try and minimize sugar. Portillos is her favorite and we always get it and scrape off the outside frosting. I thought perhaps they frost their own cakes and would be able to sell me one without frosting on the outside. I placed an order after driving 30 miles home, I noticed that they did not give me my two pieces of chocolate cake. Came back the next day. They said sorry since I didn’t call they will not give me the cake. Well I was ready to purchase another order to take home, but since they refused to give me my cake. I did not place an order. Sad thing is I stopped there once or twice a week sometimes spend as much as $60-$70 sometimes just a drink. They lost a customer. Neat little place that was suggested to me by a local. I had the beef hoagie and fries. The beef was tender and flavorful. Standard fare fries. The spiced cake was also good and very thick. The decor of the place is whimsical rustic.
