Almudena Fornieles Espinosa★Very disappointing experience. This is the first pub where I have genuinely felt unwelcome. My friends and I were simply having a conversation at our table when we were approached by staff in a rude and confrontational manner. The situation escalated to the point that we decided to leave, despite causing no disturbance and behaving respectfully. Patricia Moore★★This review would include a photo of the crime against humanity that the bartender called a pint of Guinness, but that would be a grievous affront to my phone’s camera. Your man behind the bar poured it like a lager - ostensibly because he thought I’d know no better, being a woman and accompanied by an American friend I’ve known for years - but, alas, being Irish, I DO know better. MM McMahon★★★★★Golden Rule was the first pub I visited in Edinburgh. Despite finding some other great pubs in the city, Golden Rule felt like home and I kept returning. The staff and all the patrons were very friendly, and the selection of beer was really nice, including several cask ales. Football matches were on the TVs and the whole experience was really nice.
Cnoc 500★★★★A fond step-back to another time. Polwarth/Shandon may have changed somewhat but delighted to report the Golden Rule remains a warm friendly place to enjoy a drink.
