Stopped into the Reading Oracle Pizza Express on a sunny Saturday afternoon after a long family hike. We walked in around 3 PM without a reservation for our first visit. The staff were clearly exhausted from a relentless lunch rush and initially hesitant to seat us. I was fully prepared to just get a collection order, but they kindly accommodated us anyway because we had our two kids, which we really appreciated. The food was exceptional. We love Pizza Express… doesn’t everyone?! but the reason we return time and time again ONLY to this branch is because of the amazing and attentive staff. We have never had anything other than amazing service here, but the real jewel in the crown is Marco. He never fails to remember us when we return, his service is warm, friendly and attentive without being OTT, and omg we went for our sons 6th birthday this evening (his choice) and we were utterly spoilt. Good food and fun servers. Joelle and Alina told us to tell you that they were both fantastic. They argued about who was actually the best. Really nice to come to a place where people clearly enjoy working. We enjoyed their banter. I've been in NZ for a few years now so its been really nice to come to a Pizza Express. The food was enjoyable, but the service was genuinely disappointing. We had to ask for assistance twice, and both times we were acknowledged by a staff member not wearing a uniform — yet she never actually came to help us. In the end, we had to get the colouring pencils ourselves. For a lunch experience to be truly good, the food alone isn't enough — the service needs to match. Unfortunately, it fell well short today.
