I don't know why it took me so long to visit this restaurant. We got the best table (conservatory window), a lovely garden to look over as we ate. The food was phenomenal, carbonara was rich and creamy, the lasagne was cooked to perfection. The portion sizes were way bigger than we expected (did not need the starter or side - but they were delicious also). I was also impressed at how much pancetta there was, many restaurants can be very conservative with how much protein they include but not here. La Vecchia Scuola is a great restaurant if you’re after somewhere upmarket without it feeling stiff or over the top. We have walked past the building many times (visit York regularly ) - but never realised how lovely it is inside . We met a local Chef the night before and he recommended it to us . The atmosphere is really welcoming, and the staff are friendly and attentive without being intrusive, which makes it easy to relax and enjoy the experience. I cannot Fault this Restaurant. The Staff were very friendly & weren't pushy to rush us into ordering our Meal. It's a great place with a good Menu & the food was exquisite. We both had the 3 Course Evening Set Menu + the 1 Litre Carafe of their Red Wine followed by a complimentary Shot Glass of Limoncello as we didn't have time for After Dinner Coffee's due to catching our train back to Bradford. Definitely a great place with a very relaxed & cosy atmosphere & great food & choice of Drinks.

Came here with my parents and brother for lunch. We shared the Cozze a la Vecchia and Brie Empanato as starters, both of which were delicious. For my main, I had the Duo di Agnello. I requested no mushrooms, but since they’re incorporated into the sauce and used as garnish, that wasn’t possible. Surprisingly, I ended up eating the mushrooms like chips — they were that good — even though I usually don’t like mushrooms. The rest of my family had the Branzino Beurre Blanc, Risotto Tartufo di Pollo, and Maiale Smaltato. The risotto had a very strong truffle flavour on the surface, which stood out
