I visited Newbern's Catfish today with my husband and in-laws, and it honestly felt like stepping back into the 90s in the best way. The place still has that same down home, nostalgic vibe that makes you feel comfortable the second you walk in. My grandparents used to LOVE the catfish here, but I’ve never been a catfish person. Even as a kid, I always ordered the same thing, chicken tenders, a baked potato, and a roll....and that’s exactly what I got today. And let me tell you, it tasted just as good as I remember. This place is so good. This was our first stop once we got in Florence, AL. Catfish is fried perfectly. Customer service is great. Jace was a great waiter, very attentive and kind. Even though we got there right before closing they assured us there was no rush and we could eat in and take our time. Very kind people. This will always be a first stop for me!

Hush puppies were crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, delicious, and NOT greasy. Overheard the wiatress saying the tea was too sweet for her, so I got half-cut tea and it was just about perfect. Even had small scrunchy ice! The building is functional, b

We were ready for some good Catfish from the place that claims they are famous for Catfish. I'm not sure how they can claim that. The fish had no flavor at all. I ordered a fish sandwich since I didn't want to pay $17 for one filet and fries and so glad I didn't. I wanted to order onion rings and after asking if they were homemade or frozen was told that everything they serve is frozen but the fish. I did end up ordering hushpuppies and was disappointed in those too. No onion or any other spices were used and I was left with the unpleasant taste of the grease it was fried in. As far as atmosph
