Went to this beloved, long-time neighborhood place after not having been for years. In something I recently learned the “TL;DR” version of my visit is that this place is great. The food was excellent and the service and whole “vibe” was even better, somehow. My wife and family and I used to go to this place when they were famous for having “America’s Best Waitress” a charming, warm waitress with a great memory and who never took a single note, no matter how busy the restaurant got, who actually was featured on The Today Show (or some other national program). Jennings Cafe knocked it out of the park catering our daughter’s wedding! We had over 200 guests and the team did not miss a beat! They served up the most delicious food with the friendliest and best service we could hope for. Your filet mignon was perfect, pasta and salad stations were a big hit….everything was delicious! Had apps and they were flat out awful. Nachos with a slab of cold cheese on the top holding the top layer of chips together, when we pushed thru that, the rest were so dry they practically exploded under pressure from a fork. When we mentioned it to the waitress she merely shrugged and said you should have ordered the chili with it! We also had wings which were also bone dry. Granted, they were the old bay wings so expect the coating to be dry, but what little chicken was on them was not juicy nor tasteful. Note to self: never ever go here again!

Update: service has been disappointing each time we've come back during their typical hours. Kitchen isn't horribly slow, it's just that the servers are inattentive. Food is still good, though. Our second time dining at Jennings and we're still very impressed with the food and especially the service. This time we walked down after visiting the Farmers Market and finding there was a 45 minute wait to get a table at State Fare (which is a bit overrated, overpriced and understaffed in my opinion). Jennings will be our first choice from here on out. Fried chicken platter with fries, Cobb salad
