Very disappointed with our experience here. We initially ordered a kids’ meal (chicken nuggets with chips) and a burger. The chicken was over-fried, almost burnt, and the chips were extremely dry—looked and tasted like they’d been cooked in oil that hadn’t been changed in days. We immediately told the staff that the food didn’t seem right, but were told it was “normal.” I tried one chip and couldn’t eat any more—it was that bad. Have been going to Soft Cafe for almost 18 months now. The coffee has mostly been good and a few times great. Their custom toasties were unbeatable. WERE! They no longer serve them. Very unfortunate. 3 most recent times I've been there, I have experienced very poor attitudes from the younger staff. Very easy to tell they CBF. Today was the last time i go there. Disappointed to be told they no longer do the custom toasties (which mentioned previously was usually by far the best id found anywhere, and best priced). I ordered a toastie, which was delicious, but the overall experience could be improved. Service was a little slow and some staff seemed less engaged, which made the atmosphere feel unwelcoming at times. There was also a noticeable smell from the toilet area that detracted from the café’s otherwise nice setting. I also noticed a number of customers approaching the takeaway cart out front but leaving when it wasn’t attended, which might be an opportunity to review how that service is managed. With some small improvements in service and attention to the environment, this café could really shine,

First time eating at this cheery looking cafe in Herne Hill. Chosen as it looked inviting. Staff were ok, friendly enough, young and seemed rather inexperienced. Food was ok, our group had a chicken cheese toasty which was apparently ok, but anemic looking, another had the avo toast with a couple of eggs, it was said to be bland and could've and should've had better at home. The final meal, and I say this because it came out after everyone else had long finished theirs, was some sort of cassoulet. Hmmm not sure they should call it that, an insult to our French friends.
