On Jan 13, 2026, I decided to venture over to BeaverTails 🦫 at the Tanger Mall. Today was the very first time I have ever tried a BeaverTail Pastry. I must say that this was a unique experience. We purchased 3 types of BeaverTails (The Classic, Killaloe Sunrise and the Strawberry Shortcake). In my opinion the "Killaloe BeaverTail" was very thin and crunchy. "The Classic" was much better with less crunch. The third BeaverTail was the "Strawberry Shortcake". It was very tasty and softer than the other two types that I had ordered. Originally a local snack and dessert shop exclusive to Ottawa, BeaverTails has now expanded to cities like Toronto. But in Ottawa, you’ll find these shops all over town. The signature item? A deep-fried dough pastry topped with a variety of sweet sauces and toppings. I got one with a chocolate base—freshly fried, slightly crispy on the outside but soft inside.
