We had a wonderful Bavarian dining experience at Augustiner Klosterwirt. We arrived around 11am on a Saturday and were glad to beat the queues, as the restaurant became much busier shortly after. The atmosphere was lively yet comfortable, with a very authentic Bavarian feel. We ordered the white sausages, half pork knuckle, veal schnitzel, and the Augustiner Hell house beer. Everything was excellent. The pork knuckle was the highlight for us — the skin was exceptionally crispy while the meat inside remained tender and flavourful. Food doesnt taste bad but the meats were really dry, I never leave food and I had to leave some behind here. The Apfel strudel was delicious. There were plenty of german people there, so I dont think it is a tourist trap. Service was quick to take our order and bring out the food, but we had to try hard to hunt them down to ask for dessert and again to bring our bill. The interiors were really cool, we sat downstairs but upstairs looked nicer.

This restaurant is much more authentic with a good mix of locals with foreigners. So if you prefer less touristy places this would be great! On to food - we had the full sized pork knuckle, it was huge, 3 of us shared it. Also tried Obatzda, it was also v gd and comes with a pretzel that is warm and with just the right consistency ie not too hard. We ordered the 549 Crispy Pork Knuckle — the skin was perfectly crackling, the meat was tender, and it went really well with the sauce. We also got the 532 Sausage Platter, which had a good variety of flavors and textures. Great for sharing or just trying a bit of everything. For drinks, try the 16 Radler — nice lemon flavor, super refreshing, and none of the bitterness you sometimes get with beer. Even non-beer drinkers will enjoy it. What surprised us most: even though the place was packed, the food came out quickly. But we ended up sharing a table with others because it was so packed. A
