We are riding a tandem bicycle from Geneva to Rotterdam and stopped in hotel at the Technik museum in Speyer. The hotel recommended a few restaurants for us. Unfortunately we were quite late (approx 9pm) and every restaurant said sorry but they were closed. However, Rentschlers said they were closed BUT we could have desert and a drink! After a long day cycling this was much appreciated! We had a wonderful apple crumble.

Food was quite good and it's a nice view of the river. The chicken cordon Bleu is great and portions are generous. Two strikes.... odd ordered grilled octopus but was given herring because the waiter decided to swap them without asking first. The herring was good, but ask first. Second, our table was bombed with wasps and flies. Too many flying bugs.

Plus: ++ Great food and cocktails. ++ Big portions for the money. + Relatively quick delivery time once you make the order. Minus: - took a while until we got served - asked to get the bill with our order immediately, as we had little time, got ignored. - - asked for the bill one more time from another waitress that came to our table. Nothing. Went to the bar to pay myself after 15 minutes, got an annoyed reply from the waitress that she told it to the other waitress. Not my problem. Can I pay? No, go back to your table. ?? Noticed other tables get similar issues. Bad service ruined great fo
