We had lunch today at Friedrich Wilhelm’s wine tavern in Trier and overall had a very pleasant experience. They offer a changing lunch menu with more affordable daily dishes, but we decided to order à la carte since none of the weekly specials really appealed to us that day. This restaurant deserves 5 stars for sure. The food was amazing, the service was exceptional. We ordered a lot of food and it all was amazing. We ordered carpaccio, onion soup, wiener schnitzel and a special dish recommended by the chef which we don’t have the name for. The beer was also very tasty. We got to see the owner’s dog who stayed at some tables behaving very well 🐶

We visited this restaurant on a Monday between Christmas and New Year. The interior is decorated in an upper-class style, clearly aiming for a fine-dining atmosphere. One strong point is the extensive wine list, including a wide selection of wines by the glass in addition to bottles, which is a real plus. Stopped by for lunch on a Sunday after doing a wine tasting at Rinke the night before. As expected, this place was great. Well decorated near the Basilica, and quietly tucked away. We had a chicken cordon Bleu and a steak "special" with the pfifferling mushrooms. The service was great, the food was even better, and the wine was already known to be amazing. Would go back here whenever we're in Trier and recommend it to anyone looking for a hearty meal. The portions were more than enough to have some leftovers.
