In the back streets of Catania we found this quaint family style, unassuming restaurant. Fabio and his Father are creating and delivering excellent food… the menu is extensive, and the prices are absolute value for amazing quality of the dishes. We chose seafood, and it was beautiful, the flavours were ‘perfecto’ This isn’t a flashy restaurant but its food is excellent. Fabio is a friendly host, and you can tell he loves feeding the bellies of locals and tourists alike… highly recommend this place!

Hands down the best dining experience I’ve had in a long time. As someone who loves to cook, I’m incredibly critical when eating out, but this place made want to eat there everyday. The food is truly out of this world. Even my girlfriend, who normally avoids fish, admitted it was some of the best food she’s ever tasted! The swordfish fillets were a perfect 10/10, the oysters were exceptionally fresh, and the fried shrimp and calamari were absolutely amazing. Tucked away in a quiet side street just off the main road in Catania, Trattoria Il Mare feels like a hidden gem only a short stroll from the city center. The location is perfect—close enough to the action, yet peaceful and authentic. What really stands out is the incredible value for money. Primi dishes like pasta are around €10, while secondi (fish and meat) range from €10–20. That said, the portions are so generous and the food so good that we didn’t even make it to the secondi. After two appetizers (including a delicious bruschetta), two primi, and some house wine, we were completely full.

We spent two days in Catania and ate here on both days. I hesitated at first as i disliked the bright light and the cold atmosphere of the interior. But the food reviews convinced us to give this restaurant a try. And they were right! Great fish, a charming service and very fair prices. I deeply recommend this place and will surely come back soon!
