Located within the Nigerian Foundation for Preservation, the setting is truly special—lush greenery, quiet surroundings, and a sense of escape that is rare to find in Abuja. The drive down the hill already sets the tone, and once you reach the restaurant, it opens up into a calm, almost hidden-retreat atmosphere. The outdoor concept is what really defines the experience. With small cabin-style seating areas, you get a private and relaxed space that works particularly well during the summer months. That said, the climate plays its role—heat and humidity can build up, so sitting close to one of the ventilators makes a noticeable difference in comfort. On the food side, the restaurant delivers. Cilantro Abuja presents itself as a premium dining destination, however my recent experience did not reflect that standard. I ordered the non-vegetarian (protein) platter, cheese naan, and chicken tikka masala. The platter was described as containing assorted meats, but what was served consisted of small portions of chicken that did not reflect either the expected variety or the value implied by a “platter,” particularly at this price point. At such a high price, expectations extend beyond taste to include portion integrity, presentation, and accuracy of menu descriptions. On this occasion, those expectations were not met. The dining environment also affected the overall experience. There was a fly present during the meal, and a staff member was observed moving through the dining area with a mop and bucket while guests were still eating, which disrupted the atmosphere expected in a fine dining setting. I had the pleasant surprise of discovering Cilantro during my trip to Abuja. The place is absolutely charming, surrounded by trees, beautifully maintained, and with a truly lovely atmosphere. From the very first moment, I was warmly welcomed. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, always ready to assist with a smile. The food is simply amazing, with genuinely authentic Indian flavours. It felt like tasting a piece of India in Nigeria, an authentic and delicious experience! Another major highlight is that they accept international cards, which is quite rare in Abuja and makes a real difference for travellers. I’d also like to give a special mention to the manager, Ram, who was outstanding, a kind, dedicated professional who went above and beyond to ensure we had the best possible experience. I will definitely be returning, and I highly recommend it!
