Whenever I’m passing through Carlisle station, I always take the time to visit. Food is always excellent and the service was great on this visit. I was advised there would be a wait while they cooked me a cod, which was fine as it’s definitely better cooked fresh and it wasn’t a long wait anyway. The food did not disappoint, it was all fresh and tasty and for £7.80 for a ‘small’ (it was still a healthy portion) including a side of gravy it’s a very reasonable price. For similar quality and portions down in Yorkshire where I live you’d be talking easily over £10.

Fontana’s fish and chip shop was a find for us many years ago while travelling south of the border heading on holidays. When you see somewhere like this with a long (Zigzag) queue you can expect the grub to be good and it doesn’t disappoint. Stopped here last night after running an errand to Carlisle and had the fish and chips, more like a whale supper tbh. Portion of chips was enormous, loads under that fish, and too many for me to finish without being gluttonous. I like how they name the trawler the fish was caught from.
