Staff was incredibly friendly and lovely, and the overall vibe of the bar was good. Extra points for the sinks in the men's restroom. Knocked off a star because the IPAs on tap were served in tiny juice glasses (1/3 pint?) for 7 GBP and the 2 WC IPA cans we purchased both tasted sour and we discovered they were past their Best By date on the bottom of the can. Boo on me for not checking the dates (i guess), boo on them for having old beer for sale in the to-go cooler. Buyer beware.

Popped in for their kitchen collab with King of Feasts. The beer selection was solid, with around 12 on draft plus a cooler of craft options by the door. We ordered the Santa Fe burger, chicken sandwich, and fries. Everything was decent, but I’d give the Rancher chicken sandwich a miss—not the best. When we walked in, the bartender looked at us but kept working—no greeting and no sign indicating whether to seat ourselves, no guests he was working with, just awkwardness. Big range of exciting beers, nine cask ales, interesting bar snacks and a kitchen selling good food. Fun bar staff and a lovely crowd. That’s what the Bat used to offer. Today? No good. No bar snacks. No cask ale. Virtually empty and little to enjoy over the bar. I love Northern Monk; I’m a crowdfunding share holder, but man, it’s not a pleasure to drink here now, I’m afraid. Ah well.
