I was celebrating my 40th in the private dining room which was such a lovely space to host our group of 20+. Nothing we asked for was to much and The team at The Hillgate are exceptional and catered to all our needs. Food is always 5 star and I would highly recommend this place for a casual drop in pint all the way up to celebrating in style like we did. We came here for a roast dinner on a sunday and it absolutely hit the spot. I’ve been before for some beers and it was great then too. There are heaters outside if you choose to stay and booze. Worth booking as it was busy, we almost struggled with a booking for the time we wanted a month in advance. Good veggie option for the roast and amazing meat options

Visited here on a rare sunny Sunday after visiting the farmers market nearby in February, and was lucky enough to find a spot outside in the sun to enjoy a cold drink. After smelling and seeing everyone else's food, my stomach started rumbling, and their fish and chips were whispering eat me! The fish was fresh, light, fluffy, and crispy, as we're the chips too. The scotch egg was also one of the best I've ever had, and their sweet corn ribs were a flavour bomb too. This place is definitely worth a visit, and it makes sense that it's a local favourite spot.

Excellent pub. We used the private room for some drinks after our wedding ceremony. They fit all 18 of us in the room and the staff were very attentive to make sure we had food and drink. They were also very accommodating for us dropping off our wedding cake before hand and bringing it up so we could all have some with our family/ friends. Would definitely use again for an event in the future
