After a day exploration of the filming locations at Basildon Park and the village of Mapledurham, we stopped off at The Packhorse for our evening meal. The front of house staff were very pleasant and helpful and seated us at a table for two with no reservation. Our servers Izzy and Dasiy tended to our table very well indeed. The food was exceptional and came to our table with just the right timings. All was delicious and well presented. The Packhorse itself is also a very well presented establishment and one we will be putting on our "must return to list". We spent around 90 minutes here and

Been here several times and it's always been good, but blimey, the latest time this weekend gone, some of the best food I've ever eaten. The starter, onion bhajis, second best starter I've had in my life. The pork tenderloin was like eating butter, you didn't need to chew it. Unreal. Can't wait for our next meal here. Tasted like a Michelin star meal. The photos speak for themselves. Managed to seat us without a booking too.

Tonights visit to the packhorse has been very pleasant. I nice welcome and after seating handed very well laid out menu.... Food: burger and sea bass .. a very good portion size and nicely cooked, all served with in good times. waitress and waiters : smart and very pleasant. Service I can't fault. To finish Irish coffee this stood out! waitress detail to making it. Was happy to give a tip at the end
