A DC Dessert Gem! The short version: for the past 6 years in a row, the ONLY birthday cake that my wife wants is a hummingbird cake from The Cakeroom. It is always amazing. The long version: my wife is from Texas. I'm a Marylander, so even though that technically counts as the south, it didn't include hummingbird cake. (Crab cakes and Smith Island cakes are our two famous MD cakes.) In June of 2021, my wife had a craving for a hummingbird cake for her birthday. I just would like to share my personal experience here. The taste of cake was fine but if you are going to order sth very special for example like engagement cake then this bakery is definitely not for you. I ordered an engagement cake for cherry blossom theme and I asked if they could do the same as the picture I provided, a cherry blossom cake. They told me they could do the same but I have to pay extra $100 which I think it is totally fine. I ordered a NY Cheesecake and a Chocolate Cake for a family bday celebration. The Cheesecake came out great, but we were very disappointed with how the Chocolate cake turned out. The presentation was sloppy and definitely was not worth the $60 we paid for it ($100+ total order). The website asks for a tip for the cake decorators in advance- I’d hope that the employees take pride in all the cakes they decorate for customers regardless of tip- not just decorate based on how much tip was given in advance. Would comeback for the cheesecake, but that’s it.

The CakeRoom is my favorite sheet cake that I have ever had and the best addition to any celebration. The cake is always moist and the frosting is creamy and not too sweet. The team reached out to clarify the design and made some suggestions to bring my vision to life. I can always count on several guests asking me where we got the cake, since it is always a highlight. I highly recommend for any celebration (e.g. birthdays, baby showers).
