Today, I went to The Merchant for lunch with my friends. Upon arrival, the front desk personnel kindly welcomed us at the restaurant and sat us down. The waiters/waitresses were very caring and really wanted to make sure we are well-served which is a huge plus. The table was beautifully set up, the utensils were clean. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great, I really enjoyed the dark bar-like ambiance. Used to come here after work with coworkers, but this will be our last visit. The service and food both missed the mark. We (2 ppl) ordered two dozen oysters per person; after a long wait, in total, only one dozen arrived, and that ended up being all we were brought. The oysters themselves were the smallest, flattest/thinnest I’ve ever seen, with shells and sand in every single one. When we pointed this out, the waitress responded that this is what $1 oysters are, and suggested ordering a different kind if we want better quality. Excellent for date night! I loved the variety of menu, not to mention the quality of the food and drinks. My favorites were the tuna tartare and octopus appetizers. Service was prompt, and the location is great for a pre or post dinner walk and/or show.
